Every morning I’m home, I get up at around 6am to give the pets a wake up treat and see if either of the dogs needs out to potty. This morning as I opened the slider I was greeted by a fresh layer of untouched snow—how poetic and perhaps prophetic an image for the dawning of a new year. I want to walk into the newness with awe and perhaps a bit of respectful caution like our dog Boone. He’s our anxious pup. He didn’t go very deep into the yard to do his business, but in spite of his anxiety he waded in and got the job done. But I also want to go into the new year with some of Ollie’s energy and joy. He raced out the door and ran and romped enjoying the newness and leaving his footprints throughout. He even decided to potty in a different corner—making his mark in a new way, in a new place.
As you face the new year, I hope you carry a delightful mix of wonder and joy, of caution and abandon. Leave your mark and make your way—and get the work of living done at your pace with much grace.
Happy New Year!
